3M Dobie Cleaning Pads

This is the best-kept secret in the aquarium world. No other pad removes stubborn coralline algae faster!

3M's Dobie cleaning pads are very unique little beasts. In typical "evil genius" fashion, 3M has developed a strange and wonderful mesh material. The mesh is formed into a pad with a sponge inside. This mesh has "teeth" and will scrape coraline algae quickly off both glass AND acrylic. The mesh material itself is very soft and so the "teeth" of the mesh dull very quickly. This is actually good as it does not scratch acrylic.

Here are some tips from the aqaurium maintenance pros:

1. Take a pair of scissors, snip off the seamed end of the mesh and remove the sponge.
2. You can take the Dobie sleeve and slip it over your cleaning magnet (the wet side). Be prepared for amazingly quick coralline clean-up.
3. If you have a long-handled scraper, slip the Dobie mesh sleeve over the end of the scraper and use as usual.

BE CAREFUL when near the sand! The open mesh of the Dobie will easily trap sand particles and you could end up scratching your tank.
