Lifegard Acrylic Scratch Removal Kit. The best kit available for BOTH external scratches and especially internal underwater scratches. Be prepared for putting in some effort if you have a number of scratches and especially if they are on the inside of the tank and in hard-to-reach places.

Important: If you want to remove scratches both internal and external, you need to clearly understand that you are going to make the tank look worse (at first) before it looks like new again. This is the nature of using abrasives to remove sctaches. Here are some rules:

1. Don't worry. It's plastic and easy to buff out.
2. Use the guide below as a starting point. You don't want to begin with sandpaper too coarse. Err on the side of caution.
3. When you begin to rub out the scratches, it's going to make the area look very milky and scuffed. That's OK. It's supposed to look this way.
4. We suggest starting with 3200 for most scratches unless it is clearly more obvious than a hairline scratch.
5. Using 3200, if after rubbing the area PERPENDICULAR to the scratch, you can still see the original scratch, you need to drop down to 2400.
6. Repeat the above observation.
7. As you work up through the grades of sandpaper, the milkiness will fade and eventually dissappear.

Basic Scratch Guide:

• 1500 - 1800 - Obvious Scratches
• 2400 - 3200 - Hairline Scratches
• 4000 - 6000 - Very minor scratches or scuffs
• 8000 - 12000 - FINAL POLISH
• Liquid Polish - For final polish - External use only!

CRYSTAL PAD, the sanding material in this kit, has been used to polish plastic surfaces for over 20 years in the aircraft industry. It has a thin layer of soft resilient material between the back and the abrasive crystals which provides a cushion for the abrasives.
Using a cushion design allows the relatively large abrasive crystals to recede into the resilient layer and float to an even cutting plane. CRYSTAL PAD produces a fine, even scratch pattern. It does not leave deep, random scratches as with common abrasives. It cuts rapidly because of its large crystal design and because more of the abrasive is in contact with the workpiece.
CRYSTAL PAD outlasts common abrasives because the large abrasive crystals do not load up, generate heat, or fracture into the workpiece. In dry applications it outlasts common abrasives 5-7 times and when wet, 7-15 times, making it economical to use.
